About this deal

The traditional ale at 4.4% abv is brewed with Pale Ale and Crystal malts and has a hint of citrus to create a refreshing perfectly balanced harvest bitter for real ale fans. The Wadworth team of brewers use Fuggles, Challenger and Goldings hops to build the flavour. Sport of Alkamene; a modern variety bred in Germany. Compact habit, healthy tree with medium vigour. Retains some of the Cox flavour (Cox is a distant parent). Fruit is pleasant and uniform, but we have had lots of canker and scab problems. Medium to large apple, lemon coloured skin and white juicy flesh. Flavour is slightly tart and refreshing, flesh is crisp.Vigorous, healthy tree, but strongly biennial in habit (at least in our experience). May also be used as a cooking apple. About Wadworth: Wadworth is an independent family brewer and regional pub operator, very proud of its West Country roots. Founded by Henry A Wadworth, the business passed to his founding partner John Smith Bartholomew and is now in the fourth-generation of ownership by the Bartholomew family. Wadworth has created original beers at its brewery in Devizes, Wiltshire since 1875 and is one of the few remaining family brewers to deliver to the local area using shire horses. It also has a 200-strong pub estate and works hard with its business partners and managers to ensure that the pubs offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere, quality food and drink and excellent accommodation to make their customers’ days.

Once a popular apple in the Tweedside orchards of Scotland. As time goes by, the bushes improve in size of fruit and quantity of harvest, one of those few plants that improves with age. Well-known alternative to Cox, recommended for less favoured positions. Fruit is Cox-like, but generally smaller, and more yellow. Flavour is good, but can be a little disappointing in some seasons. Again, our own experience is limited, but known to be hardy and disease free. Anotherproduct of Marcus Tydeman's nursery - Worcester bred with McIntosh. We have had slightly irregular crops, but good quality and Deliciousfruit.

One of the school’s core purposes is to develop new talent in the agri-food sector and develop knowledge of sustainable food supply. That knowledge sharing will be critical, and we hope that this group of learners will go on to continue disseminating what they gain here even further through the industry.” Early-late September. Red-flushed, conical apple, medium sized fruit. Flesh is white, chewy with a hint of strawberry. At its best, one of the best flavoured apples we grow. A choice variety, but scab can be a problem. This apple originates in Scotland, but does not quite match the official description! May be mis-named. Mid-late September. Crimson over green base. Smaller fruit, with flattened shape and distinct eye. Flesh is crisp, white with brisk flavour.Sweetens with keeping. A relaible cropper, and healthy. She added: “Tesco recognises the importance of British agriculture and the responsibility we have in terms of supporting British farmers, growers and suppliers in safeguarding the future of the food industry.” Like currants, they thrive in high latitudes and cold arctic climates – I know they grow very well in northern Scotland – which would suggest they will do better the further south you go in New Zealand . Birds can be a problem so hang up old CDs and build elaborate scarecrows with battery timers and big hats. Net the bushes if desperate.
