Fernox Power Cleaner F8 is a super strength, fast-acting cleaner for heavily contaminated, dirty and problem central heating systems. Its A plumber advised of sludge in the system and said that he'd treat it with Fernox F5 Express first, leave it a week and then see if that would loosen the sludge. He came tonight and put 1.5 cans of Fernox F5 Express into the system (volume 280ml + 140ml = 420ml) and advised me to keep the heating on as much as possible and to have the rads up full as the heat would help to break up the slugde. The rads had been on for about 30 mins and the boiler pressure shot up to 3 bar which resulted in it dumping water. I turned the heating off as my concern was that it would dump the Fernox F5 Express that had just been put into the system! Connect the mains water supply, overflow and dump discharge pipes, ensuring that all isolating valves are it can go on the return pipe, to the boiler, so it has the chance to catch detritus before it enters the boiler, with no other components (radiators or cylinder) between the filter and the boiler. That's why it shouldn't go on the flow pipe.

Designed for installation in small or restricted access areas, this high performance sealed, in- line Fernox has extended its portfolio with the new TF1 Sigma HP Filter, which has been specifically designed to protect air and ground source heat pumps. I've only got a few days to run the system with cleanser in (X400 or whichever) because I'm having a new boiler fitted on 4th September. The X400 (or whichever) won't arrive til Tuesday 29th, hence the plan to run the old boiler for 6 one-hour bursts. OK so it looks like X800 is the way to go. Just a couple of things. There seems to be conflicting opinions on how long to leave it in the system so....... how long? I'm presuming it's best to circulate at highest pump speed and have also read to close off all but one rad at a time. Is this the case? If I do have sludge will it remove/suspend this as well as products that are specifically branded as sludge removers? (i.e F3 and X400) the best position is certainly on the return pipe just before the boiler, what you are aiming for is that all the water has to pass through the filter before it can go into the boiler, to minimise the chance of particles going in there and getting lodged. However no filter collects 100% at first pass. It may be that a professional plumber, with more practice and better able to change the pipe layout, may be willing to spend the time making a better route.

Once the cleanser is in the system, I was planning to run the boiler at full wellie for an hour or so a day for 6 days. Then, drain down again, refill and run clear water through just to flush the cleanser out. After that I'll refill and put some Fernox or Sentinel inhibitor in. Turn the Powerflow unit on to carry out an initial flush to remove the system water. Refill with fresh water and dose the machine with Fernox Powerflushing Cleaner F5. Circulate the cleaner (whilst theheating is on, if possible) and begin dynamic balance flushing (reversing the flow periodically). Cleaner F3 is an effective, universal pH neutral, non-foaming cleaner, which removes sludge, scale and debris from existing central heatingBtw, I've also put a brand new F&E tank in the loft - so that's one part of the system that doesn't need anything doing to it Gradually open the dump valve further, balancing the increasing flow from the mains inlet. Aim for the maximum discharge rate that can be made up by the mains water supply available. Continue circulation with the powerflow throughout. Fernox Powerflushing Cleaner F5 is an effective, PH neutral cleaner designed for removing sludge, scale and debris in central heating systems. A one litre container is enough to clean an average sized system. Benefits It is non-aggressive and not acidic like some of the faster cleansers. If you forget to drain it out, it doesn't do any harm (but it will lose its power and the dirt will re-settle after about 4 weeks).
