About this deal

Of course, there are other measures that can be taken to secure your OBD port like relocating it somewhere else but If that’s not for you then consider getting the OBD-Saver. so what stops a determined theif from connecting to the can h/l lines and maybe even k-line further down the loom ,or is it more for the oppertunist theif? I'm happy that I can put your mind at ease and appreciate there's always a little apprehension when a new solution comes into the market.

OBD Protector | Chameleon Direct

The report came out around 6 months ago and when reviewed it was more around how thieves are actually managing to gain entry (watch some of the videos on YouTube and a thief literally walks up to a car, indicators flash and they jump straight in). Your not making any valid points at all, really. So far you've claimed there spying devices, and made a point that they're bad because "insurance adapts them then premiums go up"... Which is entirely wrong. Telling your insurance you've got one actually lowers your premium... Think about it. Portector utilises a range of bespoke wiring looms to seamlessly integrate into a vehicle. This ensures the correct fitment every time, without the need to cut into the vehicles wiring. Relocating the OBD port from the standard, easily accessible location is a popular option. An OBD wiring extension can be used to reroute the port to a different place on the car (often inside the glovebox). Once inside this allows them access to the obd port and to program keys... Just confirms the necessity of securing your vehicle with Portecor (or of course some form of anti-theft device). In 2001, the European Union introduced requirements that all new petrol cars must offer OBD access. New diesel-powered models were included from 2003. This standard is often referred to as EOBD. What can an OBD port be used for?

Without ever entering your home, or touching the car’s key, thieves are able to open and start your vehicle and drive it away in just seconds. The OBD port may also be used to upload information to the Electronic Control Unit (ECU). Manufacturers can update software this way, while tuning companies use it to remap the ECU for extra performance. While car makers’ techonological advances have brought you greater convenience, they have also left your vehicle far more vulnerable to new theft methods. Worryingly, vehicle theft has hit a six year high and this shows no sign of abating. An On-Board Diagnostics port is a standard connector used to access information from the various sensors and components in a car. Portector has been fully independently tested to ensure when fitted, it does not have any negative affect on a vehicle. Standard Features Include: An extremely strong metal protective cap prevents access to the OBD port. Without your unique key, the OBD protector* can not be removed without damaging the plug and harness. Our national installation partner is RS Connect. You may not have heard of them but they are the largest and by far the most capable company whom are carrying out automotive installs (on any scale) in the UK and beyond, we have an SLA with them to ensure every system is installed to our standard (& thatchams) including photographic evidence which will be stored for a minimum of 3 years.
