Retrieved August 21, 2007. for everything? Damn, I sound like I’m really easy to please. That isn’t case (I think), but I’m usually open minded. Enough about that, though. Allow me to pour my heart out for the legend of Miyamoto Musashi beautifully illustrated in Inoue Takehiko’s best work yet: Vagabond. Like Slam Dunk, I must admit some fight scenes dragged on a little longer than they needed to and while I enjoyed Sasaki Kojiro’s arc, I was also desperate for it to end! Kojiro is another enigma within the Vagabond universe, but I must continue to express my love for Takezo. Sorry, Kojiro. It has been serialized in Weekly Morning magazine since 1998, with the chapters collected into 37 tankōbon volumes by Kodansha as of July 2014. Viz Media licensed the series for English release in North America and has published 35 volumes as of March 2014. Vagabond won a 2000 Kodansha Manga Award and the 2002 Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize and has sold more than 82 million copies worldwide. Reading chapter 1 was a trip and a half for me. I wasn’t interested in the story 100%, but I was extremely attracted to the enigma that is Shinmen Takezo. An attractive boy with a wild attitude and a lust for killing? That’s what messed up dreams are made of. Matahachi on the other hand…nah. However, all it takes is one Buddhist monk who steals the show, and Otsū, who is Takezō’s childhood friend and Matahachi’s ex-fiancée, to help reinvigorate Takezō’s purpose in life. Considering the brutality throughout with the majority of characters being utterly horrible, Matahachi’s mother Osugi is a highlight, Inoue shows genuine emotion towards characters who are more than just hate as the friendly embrace between Takezō and Otsū, who recently learned about her fiancé’s unfaithfulness, but learns to move on. Green, Scott (December 19, 2001). "This Week's Releases". Anime News Network. Archived from the original on February 3, 2023 . Retrieved August 9, 2023. Chapter 5: The Impact of Vagabond Vagabond has had a profound impact on the manga industry and its readers. In this chapter, we'll explore the legacy of Vagabond and how it has influenced other works in the genre. We'll also take a look at the cultural significance of the series and how it has resonated with audiences across the globe.

At seventeen years of age, Miyamoto Musashi--still known by his childhood name, Shinmen Takezō--was a wild young brute just setting out along the way of the sword.

Vagabond Review:

It started in the magazine's 40th issue of 1998 ( cover date September 17), [20] [21] released on September 3 of that same year. [22] Real-life figure Miyamoto Musashi was the most celebrated samurai of all time. The quintessential warrior-philosopher, Musashi authored A Book of Five Rings, a theoretical guide to military strategy still used today. But the path to enlightenment in feudal era Japan was fraught with peril. At seventeen years of age, Musashi—still known by his childhood name, Shinmen Takezō—was a wild young brute just setting out along the way of the sword. Aronson, Michael. "Vagabond 3 review". Manga Life. Archived from the original on October 14, 2007 . Retrieved May 10, 2023. In 16th century Japan, Shinmen Takezou is a wild, rough young man, in both his appearance and his actions. His aggressive nature has won him the collective reproach and fear of his village, leading him and his best friend, Matahachi Honiden, to run away in search of something grander than provincial life. The pair enlist in the Toyotomi army, yearning for glory—but when the Toyotomi suffer a crushing defeat at the hands of the Tokugawa Clan at the Battle of Sekigahara, the friends barely make it out alive.
