For your money, you get the 15.6-inch monitor, the screen cover/stand and a USB-C to USB-C cable (with USB-A converter), which handles both power and data. There’s also a CD containing the relevant drivers, although these should install automatically anyway. With a response time of 5ms, things are generally as smooth as you’d need them to be and video is easy on the eyes. The refresh rate is only 60Hz, limiting its performance as a gaming monitor, but that was never AOC’s intention. For anything a regular office worker might want to do, 60Hz is absolutely fine. A menu then appears at the bottom of the screen, giving you the choice of six options: brightness, contrast, overdrive mode, low blue mode, language change and exit.

Although the stand is no substitute for the kind you'd get with a non-portable desktop monitor, it's decent compared with some similar mobile-monitor stands I have encountered. Above all, it is sturdy—it didn't collapse once, unlike some other portable-monitor stands I've tried. Recorded sRGB coverage was 53.80% – again, not even close to good. A decent monitor will reach around 75% of the sRGB colour gamut in tests and, ideally, will exceed 80%. If you don’t see a message, you can assume that the montior isn’t getting power, so that is where you need to start. If you are getting a message or you see lights, then the power source isn’t the issue. Seeing as the I1601FWUX works in sync with Windows 10’s native night mode, low blue mode feels a little redundant, as does overdrive mode — you’re not going to be doing any gaming on this, although you might want to watch the odd YouTube video. If you aren’t getting a signal to your AOC monitor, it could be that your computer is actually ignoring the graphics output from your PC or it is sending them elsewhere. If this is the case, the monitor is trying to pull information from a place where there is none or the information is going to a place where it cannot be displayed.

Downsides include its low contrast and colour gamut, and hard-to-reach settings – but for that price, you can’t expect miracles. Gaming isn’t a priority for the AOC I1601FWUX. It offers a standard 60Hz refresh rate and doesn’t support adaptive sync. Still, it works well enough in a pinch.

We have no complaints about the performance of I1601P’s 15.6-inch full-HD IPS display. It’s crisp, responsive and easy on the eye. Mobile monitors need to be light, and this AOC model fits the bill. The I1601FWUX has a good match of screen size (15.6 inches) and native resolution (1080p), while tipping the scales at less than two pounds. And provided your laptop has a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort over USB, you'll appreciate this panel's one-cable convenience. (Otherwise, look for a model with HDMI input.) Overdrive is set to ‘off’ as standard, and for much of the time you’ll probably want to leave it that way. Ghosting – that unsightly blur caused by fast-moving objects on digital displays – was very noticeable on this video , but we found that bumping up the I1601FWUX to its medium overdrive setting mitigated this.In terms of external controls, there’s the power button… and that’s it. If you want to tweak any of the settings, you’ll need to use the on-screen controls. Using the display on the go is not quite as simple. The slim display comes with a folding magnetic cover that does double duty as a display cover for storage and a stand for portable use. The monitor's port and interface selection is perfect in its minimalism, with just a single USB Type-C port and a single button for power. In normal operation, it gives you everything you need to get up and running, and not a single thing you don't. The I1601FWUX disappoints in color accuracy, too, with a much higher color error than most monitors we’ve recently tested. I noticed that colors which should appear punchy and impactful instead shifted towards a more pastel look.

Once you have the right drivers installed, you’re done. Just plug it in and it will shimmer into life, with a big AOC logo glowing proudly. Typically, the I1601FWUX takes about 3-5 seconds to power up, so not long at all. The entire thing measures 14.9 x 9.25 x 0.3 inches and weighs 1.8 pounds (2.2 pounds with the included cover), which makes it slimmer and lighter than most tablets and significantly lighter than even most ultraportable laptops. Although it's slightly larger than the Asus ZenScreen MB16AC (14.6 x 8.9 x 0.3 inches, 2.8 pounds with cover), it's lighter and still small enough to easily slip into a laptop bag. The 15.6-inch screen of the I1601FWUX is an IPS (in-plane switching) type, and as you’d expect from a monitor using this technology, viewing angles — on paper, 160 degrees at both orientations — are great. There was only mild greying and discolouration at extreme angles, which is fine. If you really wanted to work with the I1601FWUX at 90 degrees to your laptop, you could…Another small gripe: the USB-C to USB-C (with USB-A adapter) is annoyingly short. Sure, this portable monitor is designed to be used alongside a laptop or mobile workstation, but when you’re at your home office desk, you can’t use the I1601P as a small second monitor unless your tower sits right alongside. Features If you have worked through the other fixes and you are still getting a no signal message, then you need to try something a little more on the hardware side of things. You may need to try to connect your PC to a different monitor or your monitor to a different PC to see if the issues continue or if it is the combination of the two. The illumination looks even and when a 256 shade gradient was applied for testing, the display looked relatively even with only a few areas that you could tell there was a transition. As far as viewing angles, the picture can get a little dim when not viewed straight on, but you can still get a good idea of what you are looking at on the screen, regardless of which angle you might be viewing it from. Some might have problems with a screen that has a response time of 5ms, but in my daily use which included writing, YouTube, and some light movie watching through Netflix, this wasn't an issue.
