As an agnostic, I was not prepared for what these 70 clients revealed. I could accept an afterlife in which consciousness gradually faded into oblivion but what these clients revealed was far more sophisticated and far more demanding of us than I could have anticipated. As a lifelong student of whatever interests me I could accept that this life is a sort of school but in preparation for what? The answer seems to be a succession of lifetimes - many thousands in some cases - designed as challenges to gradually refine our consciousness to the point where we can participate in the ongoing work of... creating universes and populating them younger consciousnesses who will eventually be re-absorbed into the massive consciousness which is all there is and the source of all that is. Whether you 'buy that' or not, the revelations coming from Dr. Newton's clients are consistent across cultures, generations and genders in such numbers that we cannot write them off as co-incidence or mass fantasy. His clients came from all over the world and most of them were atheist or agnostic or just plain uncommitted. The few who had religious convictions worked to reconcile what was revealed in their sessions with what they "believed". For some that proved impossible but their memories of the life between life experience re-assured them that there is a spiritual reality that underlies material life. Case after case revealed a bit more of the process that we apparently are all undergoing but the essential steps of the process apply across the board. All that I say about it is that I found it worthwhile reading and it opened even further what I had considered to be an already open mind. I can't explain away these cases. Dr. Newton's methods are fully transparent with no 'leading statements or leading questions' so I can't fault him there. He did not ask for this bizarre twist in his career but he could no longer dismiss it and finally wrote up the cases from transcriptions of thousands of hours of audio/video recordings. Newton covers various subjects, such as techniques used by the souls to comfort their bereaved partners and family members, including entering into their dreams; ghosts (who are mostly obsessively attached to places, people and events where they can't let go); discarnates who visit Earth; regenerating damaged souls, and so on and so forth.

So far so good...very on par with the information and experiences I have encountered with those who have passed.Conscious memory, which draws what it needs from the subconscious mind. We see this in our myths and our folklore, and we see this in terms of flashes that we get in our day-to-day lives. It’s there and we don’t know why we know it. We cannot prove it scientifically, but we just have very strong feelings. This kind of memory is manifested by our conscious egos, and it is very adaptive to the physical world we live in. Within the Christian tradition, the idea that each individual was both mortal body and immortal soul distinguished humans from other creatures. This is the knowledge that I brought with me into "Journey of Souls". But Michael Newton takes this type of hypnotherapy one step further---he helps clients remember their lives as immortal souls in the spirit world.. In "Journey of Souls" he maps out the souls journey from the moment of death until rebirth. He begins by taking subjects to through the death scene of their most recent past life. What happens after this is fascinating. The soul leaves their body and feels a magnetic pull into a tunnel of light. At the end of the tunnel they are met by their personal spirit guide who has been with them througout all of their physical incarnations. These guides possess infinite love and compassion and healing energy. After long hard lives on Earth, the soul need to be enveloped in healing energy. Shortly afterwards we have a casual conversation about our successes and failures of our previous life. We are never judged harshly....there is so much love and compassion in the spirit world. After this we get to reunite with our spirit group, our soulmate, and others who are important people in our life. This part is always very emotional, and we are always greeted with some kind of celebration full of love and humor. This is just the tip of the iceberg. While I found this information fascinating, was still skeptical.

A detailed review is made of ones life during a wonderful restful period prior to corrective co-strategy...including race, gender, planet etc. for next incarnation. Much denser than JOS, this book offers details unavailable in that first book and is recommended only if you found the JOS compelling. I did, and thus I enjoyed this book immensely, especially the 65 new case studies in which Michael Newton hypnotically regresses his subjects first to a past life, then moves them forward through their death in that life, then on to the "eternal now" of the Spirit World, where the fondest hopes and aspirations of our souls are realized: we are eternal beings, destined (if we desire it) to become perfect, to guide other souls in their search for perfection, to aid in the creation of planets upon which other eternal souls will dwell, and to ultimately join with the Source of all life, what we call prosaically "God." What my subjects say is that this is as close to God as we get, and they view the presence as a collective. I find this very interesting. I ask them, “What is this to you? What are you talking about when you talk about this Higher Presence?” When they are at their council meetings, they see this powerful energy source, which seems to clarify everything that is going on with them. Some theologians suggest that nonreligious people are attempting to cut loose from moral and ethical responsibility dictated to us in scripture from a higher authority. Similarly, in Islam, the soul was breathed into the foetus by God. As in Christianity, opinions vary on when this occurred, but the mainstream opinion has it that the soul enters the foetus around 120 days after conception.

We talked about super-conscious memories and the conscious mind. When a spirit crosses over into the spirit world after death, he may see his guides coming toward him with the great halo of light, especially around the head and shoulders. It is that upper part of their energy that it seems people focus on. One could look at the way angels are drawn in the religious sense and see that halo and wings. Perhaps that is a metaphor for what we actually see when we cross over. Sometimes people have a tendency to say, “Whatever I do doesn’t matter.” They are kind of fatalistic and believe everything has already been pre-determined. This is a very wrong assumption, and I think it is damaging. Sure, we can be fatalistic about the things that happen to us in our life that really hurt. We also can say, “Well, these are things that we have to go through and they’re not going to go away, and it’s just part of being human.” That’s a very healthy mental attitude. You have to understand that one of the aspects of our lesson is to be in a particular body in a particular time and place and to go through what that body is going through and to cope with it and to bear responsibility for our actions. One of the reasons that we have amnesia is so we don’t get caught up by our past-life mistakes.
