ONCE UPON A TIME LORD

But only part four of the story still exists in the BBC archives after a copy was returned from Australia in February 1984.The Collection - Season 12 (BBCBD0526) and Season 19 (BBCBD0527) were re-released in 2021 with standard Blu-ray cases. Each set contains every serial from the season in question, along with most of the previous bonus content produced for the DVD range. These specials, like the show itself, are upscaled. Additionally, new features such as Behind the Sofa are produced in HD, and where possible previously unreleased versions of serials, such as the omnibus edition of Genesis of the Daleks, are included as well.

In Australia and New Zealand, the contract to distribute BBC Blu-ray releases transferred from Roadshow to Universal in August. As such, some subsequent releases were delayed compared to their UK/US counterparts. Following this change, titles from The Collection started to be released in New Zealand, beginning with Season 10. The 1996 TV movie was also shot entirely on 35mm film, and can potentially be re-mastered entirely in HD. However, the existing BD release is an upscale of a standard-definition PAL version (which itself is a conversion of the NTSC master). In addition to the substantial features which had already been released on DVD, there is some new material. Perhaps the highlight is ‘ Keeping up with the Joneses‘ which sees Katy Manning and Stewart Bevan return to the village of Deri in South Wales where ‘ The Green Death‘ was filmed in 1973. It is a beautiful film which showcases the impact that filming Doctor Who had on the little mining village. There is also lots of poignancy with Katy and Stewart reconnecting and the transformation seen since the mine closed. Although this idea was in fact greenlit, permission had to be rescinded when it was discovered that Davison's second job — the then-popular BBC One comedy, Sink or Swim — wouldn't allow for this more aggressive Doctor Who production schedule. BBC One controller, Alan Hart, had to personally step in to settle the dispute between the two production teams, and he "awarded" Davison to Sink or Swim. This meant that season 20 would, like its predecessor, be broadcast in the first quarter of 1983.Over 5 hours of studio footage, I wonder if that includes the Season 19 footage that’s been found since the set came out. Probably won’t include the season 18 footage? This nine-disc box set also includes hours of special features previously released on DVD including documentaries, featurettes, audio commentaries, The Five Doctors Special Edition and more. The 1996 TV Movie was a co-production between the BBC and Fox networks. The story was shot on film at 24p, which was then telecined using 3:2 pulldown to US 480i NTSC picture standards at 60i for editing and mastering.

it’s been half a year and we still don’t know what’s going on with this range, and due to reselling, I can fully empathise with fans that both don’t have the confidence to invest in catchup spending in the hundreds of pounds, while on the other hand not having a single clue what’s to become of this range.D84. But I heard somewhere the rights for physical media distribution run out for series 1 soon with regards to uec. So would it not be bumped up the list so it doesn’t effect its release if left for later down the line? I made the point then as now that it makes sense for episodes to turn up with private collectors. It’s happened before and it will happen again. I enjoy Tom’s era altogether entirely as a whole. Yes it has drab moments here and there but I find it overall to be the most consistently brilliant era of Classic Who. It has everything. Seasons 12-18 are so different to anything before and after. They build and expand on the qualities of Doctors 1-3 and pave the way for the stories of 5-7. Tom Baker’s era mixes the best of the 70’s and 80’s in a perfect blend of Action, Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Gothic and traditional Horror, Satire, and Science fiction. Even to this day people still see Tom as the definition of The Doctor. He’s iconic.
