About this deal

The quality of standard-definition pictures on this box compares very well with those of Sky and Freeview, but as with any digital TV platform the quality varies wildly depending on the broadcast quality – ITV channels, for example, look awful but the BBC’s roster looks a lot sharper and cleaner. Please can you tell me what I need to do for Foxsat to give me the relevant DLNA link for streaming? Type in your postcode, this will decide which BBC One and ITV region you receive. Verifying your postcode, this is part of the Freesat software, you can use any UK postcode. My faithful HDR Fox T2 appears to have finally given up the ghost as it enters a crash/reboot loop on power up. Thanks to guidance from this forum I am very sure it is not the HDD as this still happens with it removed. I'm also very sure it isn't the front panel as I was able to borrow the one from my emergency replacement DTR T1000. Also thanks to this forum I have secured and decrypted offline all recordings (thanks for that!)

On the plus side, I have the ability to properly troubleshoot future failures so not a bad outcome, as long as the existence of two working boxes is not immediately apparent to the other half that might perceive this to be "clutter" or "unnecessary." You must be running a non freesat tune. To retune in Freesat mode requires access to the Freesat home transponder which is a horizontally polarised transponder. You’ll also find an optical digital audio output that allows you to connect the unit to your AV receiver and listen to Dolby Digital broadcasts found on channels like BBC HD. There’s also an Ethernet port that isn’t enabled at present, but in the future will enable you to access IPTV services (such as BBC’s iPlayer), plus the USB port can be used to upload software updates.

Freesat was launched in May 2007, allowing viewers to watch digital satellite TV without a subscription. The EPG is also superb, using an instantly accessible grid layout and excellent use of the remote keys to skip forward in time or switch to a List view. When you set something to record, it asks if you want to record the whole series or the single event, and if a programme is being simulcast in HD it asks which version you want to record.

The Foxsat-HDR features a 320GB hard-disk, which dwarfs the 160GB hard-disk inside the Sky+ HD box and allows you to record up to 80 hours of hi-def programmes or 200 hours of standard-definition programmes. It also boasts twin satellite tuners, enabling you to record one channel while watching another or record two channels while watching a third. With the custom firmware, non-Freesat channels can be added to the Freesat EPG. Unfortunately no EPG programme information is available for non-Freesat channels.
