Versatile – After 9 months in New Zealand, we can say that we wore this jacket almost every day, all year round. I usually wear a small, but I could barely get into it, and it was extremely difficult wearing additional layers underneath. I tend to like rain jackets just because of personal preference, and if they look like a regular jacket, I wear them just on chilly, windy days too.

They’ve shorted the chin flap, so it might need less adjustment down there anyway, but still, it’s effortless to make this type of cord adjustable in both directions. I know some of the newer, more advanced rain jacket fabrics are supposed to be even more breathable (such as Gore-Tex Pro, Polartec Neoshell, and eVent), but I haven’t given those a try quite yet. They did update a previous complaint of mine, which is the one-way-only adjustable shock cord in the hood.I’ve been toying with the idea of trying mine as a snowboard jacket– Use it as a light shell and layer up. But if you’re getting yours from Malaysia or Singapore, the UNIQLO Blocktech Parka is listed in the men’s section.

I would be interested in your views as to the breathability of this fabric compared to say gore text or other proprietary materials. Not only is this more comfortable, but it’s also more durable, as stretchy fabrics aren’t as likely to break under pressure. In a heavy downpour, their phone was damaged because water had seeped into the pocket where the phone was being kept via the zip. The stitch-free construction keeps errant water from seeping between seams - a traditionally weak point in classic winter and spring outerwear. If you’re planning on using it for more casual circumstances, or…have a small head, then you won’t run into this problem.They’ve got trench coat styles featuring the same fabric, so those are worth checking out too, but this review is just for the parka.
