Picture clarity is rather impressive, with an impressive level of clarity even in wide landscape shots. For such a bulky camera the optical viewfinder provided is surprisingly small, yet the built-in flash, set somewhat forward of the faceplate to avoid fingertips getting in the way, is large and prominent. Happily, the lens features an automatic cover that slides shut when not in use, so no lens cap is required to avoid scratches or dust. Keeping things distinctly old school, the camera requires four bog standard AAs for power, which were provided out of the box with our review sample. QR codes are a neat extra, letting you add a web shortcut to your pictures that can reveal a location, display a secret message or play back a recorded sound when followed with a smartphone's camera.

Once you're happy, hit the big print button and the finished image will 'fly' up towards the top of your phone, like it's being sent to the printer by tractor beam. If we want to ‘go large’ the Fujifilm Instax Wide 300 remains an enticing option in the marketplace, although the Lomography option is more feature rich for those who may manually enjoy some control over exposure. You can also pair to a handful of Fuji digital cameras and print directly from them, but the list of compatible models is currently rather small. A more expansive range of Instax Wide film types would be nice, as would faster charging over USB Type-C, but otherwise there's very little to grumble about here. That said, the Fujifilm Instax Wide 300 camera has a decent amount of weight to it (612g without any extras), especially with the four AAs required for power inserted into the base of the handgrip and a special Instax Wide colour film pack pre-loaded at the back.INSTAX Wide Monochrome Instant Film comes in a box of 10 sheets and is compatible with INSTAXWide instant cameras. Pictures are vibrant, with some hues like blues and greens having more punch than others in the default "Instax-Rich" mode. A delightfully simple way to turn your smartphone snaps into analogue photos using Fujifilm's largest instant film format. As they are developed, rather than printed, they have the signature style that makes instant film such a joy to use – although it does mean a minute or two's wait between pressing print and seeing the final result.
