About this deal

With that said, I had trouble understanding what you mean by "usable" when we're referring to zone focusing. I have a phone case which gets it pretty close to feeling like a compact camera, so that extra feature will set it apart.

The Fujifilm XF10 takes great photographs and looks great doing it, but has too many caveats for us to wholeheartedly recommend. It’s better to add a bit cash and get a 24mp stabilized (perhaps SONY) sensor , sensor cleaner , pixel mapping , sharper lens , normal AF , to be able easily attach filters and so on and so on and so on . I actually bought a really compact MFT (Panasonic Gx800/850 with tiny 12-32 zoom and it's opened my eyes to what modern functionality in a small camera should be!The Fujifilm XF10 has plenty of limitations, but it’s a pocket-sized street and travel camera rather than an all-rounder. Hence, the fact that this DPR review completely misses this core aspect of the camera's focusing strength. Overall operation is sluggish and autofocus just isn't reliable, which is unforgivable at this point considering how capable smartphones have become. I found freedom in the limitation, and for the XF10 it’s actually great because it plays into the camera’s philosophy. Lightroom does have them and also doesn’t have the Xtrans sharpening issues since the XF10 uses a Bayer sensor.

Maybe it's because it's using a data micro usb cable and not a dumb charging cable or maybe it just doesn't work plain and simple. The AF system itself is pretty sophisticated, with a choice of single point, zone and wide modes covering pretty much the whole image area. What it's doing is performing "zone focusing" presets, where the aperture and focal distance are set to make sure that anything within a certain depth-of-field are acceptably sharp, even if you miss precise focus on your subject. As much as I like the results from the XF10, I’d rather it was a bit fatter and had the tilting screen. Usually, premium compact cameras such as the Panasonic LX100 II are expensive, but the Fujifilm XF10 is more affordable. I'm sad to hear this as it's so close but AF beeps when it's wrong is always frustrating and unforgivable. This was released last year, with the following release notes, which appears to improve AF and possibly reduces lagginess of the EC dial.

Thank you, but I do understand how Zone Focus works, however pixel density, lens design, lens sharpness, etc, etc, all play an effect on how really “usable” it might be for things like street photography or similar situations, the DoF from the film days it’s not quite the same with high megapixel digital sensors, perhaps I should’ve been a little more specific, most examples I’ve seen on line are slightly off, and seeing as you can’t program it for different distances makes me hesitant of getting one. What’s great about Snapshot is it makes street photography or even pictures of the kids as they play extraordinarily easy and quick because focus and aperture are already taken care of by the camera ahead of time. The most striking thing about the Fujifilm XF10 is its compact, slim body – a big advantage over interchangeable lens mirrorless cameras. The image quality has come a long way since my FinePix X100, but the responsiveness and autofocus on the XF10 is just too reminiscent of Fujifilm's early-generation cameras to ignore. The new Wacom One 12 pen display, now in its second generation, offers photographers an affordable option to the mouse or trackpad, making processing images easy and efficient by editing directly on the screen.

For photographers who need advanced photo editing options, Pixelmator Pro for macOS offers layer-based editing, machine learning-powered adjustment and selection tools, and features such as Denoise and Super Resolution. The XF10 offers really solid image quality and is essentially a cut-down Fujifilm X70, which was itself Fujifilm's take on the Ricoh GR series, though it shared some design philosophy with the company's successful X100 series that uses a less-wide-angle 35mm-equivalent lens. A side effect of the leaf shutter is that it is nearly silent, making this camera particularly great for street photography. It’s a bit odd using the focus stick rather than a regular four-way pad, but it means the back of the camera is less cluttered with controls and you’re unlikely to press something by accident when holding it. Maybe it's because EU rules prohibit the use of the word champagne for anything other than actual champagne. An updated X100 without the expensive hybrid viewfinder on a smaller body would sell like hotcakes despite what Casey from Camera Conspiracy says. You can rest assured that this review is strictly my own opinion and not influenced by a corporate gift. While I’m sure that the XF10 has a lot of plastic in it, the camera feels solid and sturdy, like it could take a beating and still function just fine (I have no plans to test this). If you've watched a movie within the last 90 years or so, the XF10's video will look choppy by comparison. The XF10’s fixed screen helps make it smaller, but it can be frustrating when you’re trying to compose from different angles.
