About this deal

The conversations are so smart, so witty, so ingeniously hilarious, so lip-smackingly spectacular that no one but Stephen Fry can pull this off. The title and epigraph imply as well one of the novel's themes: the practicality of poetry and how that helps Wallace, a poet, regard the "miracles" in the story with a sceptical eye. He has also published a collection of work entitled Paperweight (1992); and Rescuing the Spectacled Bear: A Peruvian Journey (2002) – his diary of the making of a documentary on the plight of the spectacled bears of Peru.

At Swafford, Ted finds his old pal Michael Logan, played by a miscast Matthew Modine, less than happy to see him. What's not to like (apart from the one bum note: Matthew Modine who seems to have no idea what film he's in)? Stephen Fry is the epitome of the Renaissance Man and is fast becoming what we in Britain like to describe as a ‘national treasure. At no point does it get too bogged down building a single character or story element, and blooms like a flower towards it's bittersweet end.Witty British humor combined with a clever plot, amusing characters top with a superb performance by the leading actor Roger Allam. I enjoyed the performances in this especially from Roger Allam but the film itself left me a little cold probably because I couldn't really relate to the people in it plus it was a little too high brow for my liking.

Since I enjoyed so much reading The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie, and due Stephen Fry is a very good friend of Laurie, and it seemed that Fry's style in novels can be quite similar to Laurie's, I thought that it could be a good idea to try some book by Stephen Fry. Seeing as Stephen Fry with his gentility and wit is my favourite atheist (though he does have his moments), I had high hopes for this movie. Much more than actually /are/ lesbian, vegetarian, or whale-lovers for their lives, but it's something to /say/. Few mere mortals have ever embarked on such bold and heart-stirring adventures, overcome myriad monstrous perils, or outwitted scheming vengeful gods, quite as stylishly and triumphantly as Greek heroes. The others discover David's absence and rescue him before Ted is forced to deliver the unfortunate news that Jane's leukaemia has killed her. It forces that sigh symptomatic of that all-too-familiar sadness that comes on when I realize I've reached the end of a book like this. Unaware that David is using some unorthodox methods, the Logans are set on sharing their son's gift with the world. There are more mobile phones in the world than there are people on the planet: Stephen Fry talks to the backroom boys who made it all possible and hears how the technology succeeded, in ways that the geeks had not necessarily intended.
