His most recent novels— Home Before Dark (2020) and Survive the Night (2021) —have been fun and a bit rickety. TGL features multiple POVs that tell their own side of the story regarding the Bloody Heart Killer, or the BHK, and converge towards the end of the book. That becomes impossible, though, when it blows up into an all-out public scandal: Congress opens hearings and a tireless national security reporter publishes a bombshell exposé. Mamere (Arnold Oceng), Jeremiah (Ger Duang), Paul (Emmanuel Jal) and Abital (Kuoth Wiel) all arrive in the U. I found myself reading late into the night trying to unravel the mystery that Rosenstiel’s “fixers” were coming to grips with.

Each and every chapter was thoroughly engrossing and I loved that there wasn’t any filler to add to the story. One in particular towards the end caught me completely off guard and while it proved to be a bit of a fake out, got my blood pumping! Layer after layer of twisted plot, yet everything working well together and never feeling like too much was going on. The US District Judge initially granted the defendants' motion to dismiss but allowed the suit to be refiled if the plaintiffs subsequently and successfully registered copyright of the interviews. But as attorney Robert Kavin, whose son, Gabe, was the Bloody Heart Killer’s sixth victim, tells Gwen shortly after he picks her up at a bar and follows her home to bed, he’s so far from convinced that Thompson is the man who killed his son that he offers to defend him pro bono and asks Gwen to join his team as a consultant who can assemble a psychological profile that will prove that Thompson isn’t the murderer—unless of course it proves that he is.

And, although they are working together, it often felt like they were two boxers in a ring, pivoting around each other, throwing out a jab on occasion to see where it might land; sizing each other up with intelligent dialogue, trying to figure out what the other was holding back.I finished this a few days ago and had to re-read the synopsis to refresh my recollection of the plot and characters.
