About this deal

When raiding the Thousand Eyes fort on Camarth, the Lion and Zabriel find imprisoned Blood Angels who've been driven insane by the warband's ministrations.

Over at Warhammer Community, our coverage of the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 continues with the reveal of a brand new Tyranid unit and close examinations of how characters and weapons work in the new system.Cool Sword: The power sword Fealty appears to the Lion in the forest at the moment where he most direly needs a weapon, is perfectly sized to fit his hand, and is very good at killing Chaos worshippers. The Ghost: The modern-day Dark Angels Chapter, descended from Lion's loyalists; they've been menacing the Fallen, trying to hunt them down and kill them to expunge a stain on the Legion's record, which informs the way many of the Fallen now behave.

Brutal Kunnin’ stars the Orksand Adeptus Mechanicus, and proves that, with enough self belief and a big enough ramp, two Orks in a Shockjump Dragster can obliterate a Warlord Titan. He also learns that Vashtorr and a bunch of the Fallen are making for the Somnium Stars with the loyalist Dark Angels in hot pursuit.

Discussed when the Lion muses on the differences between himself and his brother Roboute Guilliman; Guilliman always thinks about a dozen things at once, making him an excellent logistician and strategist, but crippling his capabilities in individual combat, while the Lion is always laser-focused on one thing, which makes him a deadly duellist, but harms his ability to go with the flow or consider the big picture. The Sanguinary Guard are an awe-inspiring sight, decked out in gleaming gold armour and descending on pearl-white wings like true angels of death. He's not doing it because there is a genuine strategic value to doing so, he's doing it out of spite. Prophecy foretells of a mysterious gate beneath a human city that only the one true warboss can open, and plenty of aspiring leaders know for sure that they’re the only ork suitable for the job. Also theorise/suspect his new forest warp walk technique is due to the two watchers in the dark who are on the base of the new model and would it give a "lore" explanation. He did, indeed, let Caliban be stripped of its culture and environment as Luther alleges because he was not interested.

Reading it and seeing his fantastic new tabletop miniature almost makes me want to start a Dark Angels army myself, helped with no small part because of this book. Son of the Forest is a character study about the Lion — what is a Primarch, completely alone, out of time and without guidance? Arks of Omen: The Lion finds him already on his way to aid the Dark Angels , but to find out how he got there, you’ll need to read The Lion: Son of the Forest .Recommendations: While there are plenty of Dark Angels stories, and even a Primarch specific novel for the Lion, not the mention the Horus Heresy, I would recommend the Dark Imperium novels next if you are looking for another read in the 'modern' era of 40k lore. Between this and The Godeater’s Son I’m now at a point where I’m more likely to opt for an audiobook over the traditional version if he’s narrating.
