I’ve had this conversation before, and for the author to explore a “POV” companion novel in this way was simply… ingenious.

In the first installation of the Hopeless Series, we learnt of what happened when Sky Davis, an unsettled girl, met a long-lost childhood friend by the name Dean Holder. When the hour elapses, the girl takes off like Cinderella, as Daniel tries to convince himself that what occurred was only just make-believe.While struggling to rebuild everything that crashed around them, Morgan finds comfort in the last person she expects to, and Clara turns to the one boy she’s been forbidden to see. While it is a “revisiting” of the key moments in “ Slammed” it does it through Will’s perspective, and allows us into his emotional turmoil as his sense of moral and loyal “duty” battle his internal urges, and what he truly wants. Knowing that despite his very righteous decisions, in reality, he had very human thoughts and resentments. Despite leading separate lives in their respective relationships, the two continue to meet over time on the same date every year. Beyah’s plan is to keep her head down and let the summer slip by seamlessly, but her new neighbor Samson throws a wrench in that plan.

Nevertheless, Warren is determined to woo the passionate and fiery Bridgette, if only she'd stop fighting him long enough to see how charming he is. The novel, which was a 2020 Goodreads Choice Awards nominee for best romance, follows Morgan and Clara as they attempt to navigate life after tragedy, the messiness of being a teenager, and learning to cope with heartbreak. The Slammed series was already on my TBR list but has just moved up quite a few notches after reading her work!I actually titled my review of This Girl “Why you shouldn’t read This Girl”– and it wasn’t because I don’t recommend this book – it was because Colleen Hoover totally rocks, and sucks you in, and ruins other books for you, but you HAVE to read it, becuase it is so good! I just finished this book and I tell you it made me cry all over again reliving the heartache Will and Lake had to go through to get where they are now. The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk.
