About this deal
It was launched down the steepest hill in town and only reluctantly fired up when bumped with 30mph on the clock. If you give a team of engineers a challenge, they aren’t just going to throw their hands up in frustration and go home. The starter clutch rollers grind on the crankshaft, and you can hear the grinding noise when you start the bike up.
The power from the water-cooled V-twin engine was not very startling, nowhere in the rev range did it seem to come on cam with any urgency. The 650 variants were the final iterations of the twisted twin - and Honda has not revisited the design since.
The review I remember reading compared the two and the upshot was that the reviewer was was more impressed with how close the 500 was to the 650 over most of its working range (much of the 650's advantage was above the speed limit).
The Sports is also significantly restyled with a larger fuel tank, a nose fairing, side panels, seat, and tail unit that share much more modern lines. Then the very nice Hawk GT 650 with its 650 V-twin but longitudinally mounted as opposed to the "flying V" of the CXs. More expensive models also have sensors in the training handles but with this model you have to take your hands off to hold the grips to track your pulse.Besides the 'vanilla' CX500B, models after 1980 sport dual piston calipers replacing the single piston caliper of the earlier models. Tubular frame design, TRAC anti-dive forks, Pro-Link rear suspension, twin-pot brakes and disc front and back.
