About this deal

Kushida proposes the idea of having Kiyotaka invite Horikita to Pallet, a very popular cafe on campus, where they would then "unexpectedly" run into Kushida. The students of the class are concerned since they had not received any of the points they were told they would receive at the start of the month. Ayanokouji Kiyotaka has landed at the bottom in the scorned Class D, where he meets Horikita Suzune, who’s determined to rise up the ladder to Class A. But as at that point it is just a seeming slice-of-life at a crazy school that gave their students 100,000 yen allowance I didn't mind it so much. While all of this is going on, we learn more about the characters, see different sides of them, and observe how they interact with one another.

I’m pretty lenient about cursing and sex jokes, but please don’t post comments that attack others, especially on the basis of their gender/ethnicity/sexual orientation, etc. will be smaller because it’s based on academic performance – not just your own but the entire class’ performance.Kiyotaka witnesses the event and Horikita asks if he will also attempt to do the same, to which Kiyotaka says he understands her enough to know not to.

However, even though I really liked the premise, the nature of the school actually isn’t revealed right away. If only the education system had been more open-minded about the individual aptitudes of students, then it might not have taken him so long to realise such important things about himself. Chabashira reveals that Class 1-D received all of the points they were supposed to get, and goes on to reveal that their constant poor behaviour over the last month had decreased their monthly point earnings to zero as the school has evaluated them as being worth that much. When the possibility is brought up that their expulsion would raise the class average, a part of me genuinely thought, “It’s more efficient to just cut them loose than try to turn them into good students. I get the impression that COTE will end up being the kind of story where everyone gets a turn at self-actualisation eventually.

Horikita explains the plan that they made to get them to study while also not using their free time, which consists of spending their time during class to memorize and study questions, and then to use the time in between the periods to personally teach them whatever they had issues understanding. The student takes control of the stage and intimidates the first-year students into silence before introducing himself as Manabu Horikita, the president of the student council.

Kiyotaka realizes he's been caught and admits the scheme while Kushida restates her desire to become friends with Horikita. She then displays the scores the class got on the mock exam a week earlier and laughs at the class for their overall poor scores, adding on that seven of the students would have been expelled for their results should the test have been officially recorded on their report cards. Late reply, but because of the issues around alterations in the Seven Seas versions, I read the Japanese volumes. I’m interested to see how the novels continue to develop in comparison to the anime and also how the novels extend beyond that as well, so I hope you continue with following my thoughts on this journey as well! They go to the cafe where after some light-hearted chatter, Kushida directly asks who he would prefer to choose as an ally between Horikita and her.
