I received it as a gift many years ago and still read it at Christmas time - take a break and have a laugh.

Quentin Blake is one of Britain's finest illustrators, and best known for his own picture books and his collaboration with Roald Dahl. I often see things, in the artwork, that I haven't noticed before---in spite of owning it for years!It was published by Atlantic Books and is based upon the Christmas carol " The Twelve Days of Christmas". A friend recommended it to me and it has made my husband and myself laugh each time we read it, and reading it will become a Christmas tradition at our house.

It makes me laugh out loud every time I read it and I keep it out (not just for Christmas) to read through it occasionally. FIRST EDITION 1998, small 8vo, 185 x 135 mm, 7¼ x 5¼ inches, pale yellow cloth, gilt vignette and lettering, pale violet endpapers, (32) pages.The gifts eventually cause a breakdown in their relationship, with Emily's house and gardens being ruined by all the birds, animals, and personnel that Edward sends. They also considered that it was a way of dropping hints about the consequences of poorly idealised Christmas presents. And who but Quentin Blake could exploit the full comic possibilities of this hilarious debacle as first birds, then maids and finally the full percussion section of the Liverpool Philharmonic bring mayhem to the calm of an English country Christmas?

The monologue is performed by the reading out of letters written by Emily Wilbraham to her lover Edward. I had a hard copy of this book many years ago and loved it, but I must have lent it out as this year I could not find it. First edition thus hard back binding in publisher's original Devon cream cloth covers, scarlet title and author lettering to the spine.
