First off, Blue Album is fantastic. One of my favorite albums of all-time. Secondly, I will admit that I did listen to this album once on one of those Crosley Cruiser turntables before I upgraded. That being said, I still don't think one play on that would've done damage to it. Songs like The World Turned and Left Me Here and Surf Wax America betray the heart of a kid who would rather skateboard to work every day than face up to the responsibility of buying a car. Rivers Cuomo's wit and songwriting chops are evident in In the Garage, where he sums up his generation's fascination with kitsch pop culture. Inside the album booklet, Cuomo pays tribute to his past metal influences with a photo taken in the group's garage on Amherst (this same garage would be featured in the "Say It Ain't So" music video). A poster of Judas Priest's album British Steel is featured on the left side of the photo, while on the right a Quiet Riot concert poster is displayed. The Deluxe Edition features additional photographs of the band and hand-written lyrics for each song. [28] Promotion [ edit ] a b c Mapes, Jillian (February 26, 2017). "Weezer: Weezer (Blue Album)". The cover is very saturated, and the fellas almost look like they're Simpsons characters because of how yellow they are. The label on the records is also pretty dull and papery looking, despite it being a glossier label.

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. Weezer rehearsed 15 songs in New York in preparation for the Electric Lady Studios recording sessions. Four songs from this rehearsal would not be attempted for the album: "I Swear It's True", "Getting Up and Leaving" (which would both later appear on the deluxe edition of the band's second album Pinkerton), and a reprise version of "In the Garage". Another song, "Mykel and Carli", an ode to two women who ran the Weezer fanclub, was recorded. Weezer later recorded another version of "Mykel and Carli" as a B-side for the single " Undone – The Sweater Song", with close friend of Cuomo, actor and songwriter Karl Koch, which is also included on the album's deluxe edition. Like all Weezer albums - including their critically-acclaimed newest, Weezer (The White Album), released this spring - the songs on these vinyl reissues truly speak for themselves; chances are, you already know quite a lot of them, from Maladroit’s “Keep Fishin’” (whose video epically featured the band in an episode of The Muppet Show) to Weezer (The Red Album)’s “Pork and Beans” to Make Believe’s Aughts-defining anthem “Beverly Hills,” and more. These vinyl reissues serve as a brilliant refresher course for the story of band who are still making an indelible mark on music today.

Blue Album era releases (1992–1995)". Weezer.com. Archived from the original on August 13, 2010 . Retrieved August 31, 2007.I listened to this album once, thought it was OK. 'Buddy Holly' was alright I guess, 'In the Garage' was the first song to grip me, probably because of the lyricism. Now before giving an album a score out of 5, or really giving it a look, I need to hear it at least twice. All the way through, no stops. Then it can be shuffled, but this time I look at the lyrics, let them sink in. I didn't need to look at the lyrics after the second listen. They were in my head. The numbers came in, and the national Soundscan showed… 90. 90 sales! 90?!? ‘Who the hell are these OTHER 45 people?’ we asked in disbelief. That meant across the country, 45 people just saw the Blue Album sitting there, and apropos of nothing, just bought it. Lewis, Luke (November 2, 2009). "Album review: Weezer – 'Raditude' ". NME.com . Billboard 200: Feb 04, 1995 | Billboard Chart Archive". Billboard. April 14, 2013. Archived from the original on April 14, 2013. In this album I found some sort of solace, sentiments in the lyrics that seemed to resonate strongly with me, as if they had tumbled out of my head and into my speakers. 'No One Else' grabbed me in this way, as did 'Buddy Holly'. I started thinking about my life, the ways in which these songs told me more about myself. Now I know in saying that I reveal a cliche in music reviewing, that being the 'emotional connection that revolutionized my life'. It's not like that. I didn't change my lifestyle, I just reflected more on it, a concept that would grow stronger upon my discovery of Weezer's next album, Pinkerton. Superunknown: 50 Iconic Albums That Defined 1994". While preparing for the studio sessions, Weezer focused on their vocal interplay by practicing barbershop quartet-style songs, which helped Cuomo and Sharp feel more comfortable collaborating during rehearsals. Sharp, who had never sung before joining Weezer, developed his falsetto: "I had to sing an octave higher than Rivers. After a lot of practice, I started to get it down."
