Reeves explains more about his version of the Batcave in his Esquire interview. He notes, “The idea [of the Batcave] being that some of these wealthy industrialist families had private train cars at the turn of the century. So the Batcave is actually in the foundation of this tower. It was [another] way of saying, ‘How can we root all these things in things that feel real, but also extraordinary?” Additionally, according to the publication, “The new Batcave is based on a secret underground railway that still exists in New York.” For Field, both director Matt Reeves and producer Dylan Clark were brilliant collaborators, and he found them very generous in talking him through their experiences of making the film with honesty and passion. These early concept designs would seem to suggest that director Matt Reeves and Warner Bros.' art department were considering slightly more traditional/comic-accurate looks for Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) and The Penguin (Colin Farrell).

The first movie that he remembers being a passionate fan of was the first Toy Story movie. This led to a love of animated movies and television series. In addition to classic Disney animation and the Looney Tunes shorts, Adam is also a big fan of animation from the 1990s. This includes TV shows like Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, and Goof Troop. He is also a big fan of shows like The Simpsons and Futurama. The last of the Batman signature trifecta is the Batcave. And while we might typically imagine a high-tech stronghold. Reeves’ The Batmantakes us in a different direction.

THE DARK KNIGHT Director Christopher Nolan Reveals Why He Won't Publicly Share His Thoughts On THE BATMAN

It was the little tidbits that I loved - like the inspiration of Stephen King’s Christine on the Batmobile, or the specific comics that informed this incarnation of Batman,” Field adds. “Having not seen Colin Farrell’s transformation into the Penguin in person, I found it particularly fascinating to learn more about the choices and physical process behind that.” One piece of artwork actually leans a little more heavily into the comic books with that classic shot of Batman using his cape to swoop through his home. The Batmobile] has to make an appearance out of the shadows to intimidate, so I thought of it almost like Stephen King’s Christine. I liked the idea of the car itself as a horror figure, making an animalistic appearance to really scare the hell out of the people Batman’s pursuing. There is absolutely a horror-genre aspect to this movie. Warner Bros. All in all, one could surmise that Robert Pattinson’s Batman listens to My Chemical Romance as he rides through the darkness in his Batmobile. Possibly with his bangs flying in the wind. A Closer Look at The Batman‘s Batmobile

As a huge Batman fan for as long as he can remember, Field’s younger self would sit drawing his own Burton-era Batman film posters while imagining ideas for new Batman stories. He can trace his obsession from the comics to the Animated Series through the Christopher Nolan movies and the Arkham video games.Elsewhere, we get some awesome shots of Gotham, the new Batsuit, and even the Grapnel Gun that proves to be a vital part of the Caped Crusader's arsenal. We're anticipating seeing even more from the movie over the coming weeks, but for now, a full gallery of concept art can be found at the link above! Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batmanstars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. Designer James Chinlund shares, “The design process was like finding a way of letting Bruce reveal his character and the intimidation factor of recognizing like ‘Oh, my God. That’s Batman!”—but at the same time keeping it under wraps low-key. Warner Bros. Warner Bros. Warner Bros.

Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens." The Batmobile has been a topic of much conversation since The Batman was first announced. Even before Reeves' provided a first look at the car in March, fans were speculating about what Pattinson's version of the Batmobile would like look. Many have compared it to a muscle car, including Wright. Some also feel the car's relatively simple style - at least compared to Batmobiles of the past - suggests Pattinson's Batman won't be quite as drawn to the bells and whistles. Unfortunately, the first images of the Batmobile were fairly dark, making it difficult to spot specific elements. As mentioned by Dillon and implied by the release of other concept art via The Art of The Batman, originally, Farrell might have had simply a broken nose. This sort of design for Penguin would have certainly been a departure from how the “ugly” character is usually portrayed as Farrell is widely considered attractive—which is likely why Reeves and his team went with the oversized trench coat, bodysuit, and facial scars. However, the concept art does give off a Fredo vibe. In the past, Farrell and Reeves have said that their Penguin takes emotional inspiration from John Cazale’s Fredo in The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II. In The Batman, Oz is a foot soldier of Carmine Falcone and has yet to be taken seriously by his associates.

THE PENGUIN To Pick Up Days After THE BATMAN; New Look At Colin Farrell As "Oz" Revealed

Of course the “riddling” aspect of The Riddler was retained in The Batman, giving Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne a dark mystery to solve. That mystery indeed unfolded in creepy fashion as The Riddler went around Gotham murdering the powerful in ways intended to send messages to Batman. Undoubtedly the creepiest of The Riddler’s kills saw him murdering commissioner Pete Savage by affixing a trap to his head that forced rats to burrow their way into the victim’s face and eat him alive. This particular killing method in fact seemed to have more in common with Saw villain Jigsaw than The Riddler’s primary inspiration, the Zodiac. Much like 2022’s Batsuit, The Batman’s Batmobile directly reflects this Batman’s personality.
