I like the size, and the quality of construction. I already owned a larger Peavey amp (Ultra 112) so I knew that Peavey made a reliable product. As far as Silver vs. Red Stripe, they are very very close. The tones are a bit flat and generic sounding... the transtube technology that was refined on the 158 was simply stellar and had a wonderful tubelike tone. This amp just seems to sound very small and compressed, making the tones a bit more lifeless to my ears.

You must consider the power output of your amplifier based on the premises where the event/performances are to be conducted. The only things i would have a problem is that the distortion could have been better. The sound of it kinda breaks appart when you crank it up.

What makes this and other Peavey's great is the reliabilty. They are built solid and you can bang it around and still be ok. Once again, the dials on the amp seem a little loose but so far they haven't come off or anything so I'm pretty sure they'll last. Also, despite this durability it is not a heavy amp and can easliy be lugged around. Mine doesn't have a modern/vintage switch as some I've seen do but seems to have everything else the newer ones have. It is what I've seen called "Silver Stripe", I think. And i'm still doing this for fun? Time well spent? Time spent, that's for sure! Lession learned? Yup

I would buy a different amp. A Kustom or Ibanez or Orange or almost anything but a Rage. Other Peavey amps are very good, but this one is not that great.
