About this deal

Mark from Byrdstown, TnThis is the greatest Christmas song of all time.I dont care what anybody says,it is.Case closed.

While this book did have some great feel-good moments and holiday fluff, I was happy that it had its emotional moments too. This book got to me, and I was glad to have my tissues nearby. We happen to be going through a big wave of Covid right now, in fact it is why I’m a little late on reviewing this book. Everyone I know, friends or family around me, seem to have Covid except for me. I’ve been trying to take care of everyone without catching it myself. So, this morning when I woke up early to finish this book and was found with swollen eyes, a red nose, and a trash can full of Kleenex, the obvious question “Oh no, did I give you Covid?” was asked. My answer: “No, it’s just that my heart has been broken into tiny pieces and then slowly mended by this wonderfully written queer holiday romance book I just finished.” Well let’s just say I got some dirty looks and no sympathy for that statement.

Need Help?

I would love to talk more about this book, but my review is getting long already. While the year is not up, this book might be in the running for my biggest surprise of the year. While I was hoping to enjoy this, I didn’t not expect this to be a 2022 fav. It is also that this book doesn’t seem to work for me on paper since it has some of my biggest pet peeves, but Cochrun sure pulled it off anyway. As I mentioned before, this is only her second book so it makes me really excited to think about what other books she might write in the future. If there was any question about it, I absolutely recommend this queer holiday romance.

Overall, I wasn't overly in love with this one. I didn't really like any of the characters, maybe just Andrew's grandma, but that's it. I did enjoy the family Christmas traditions though. Last year I had the pleasure of reading a copy of The Charm Offensive and when it instantly became one of my all-time favorite romances, I knew I needed more from Alison Cochrun. I searched rights reports hoping to see an announcement for another book and found out she was writing a sapphic Christmas rom-com??? To say I was excited about this release would be a massive understatement. Even then, I was not ready for how this book would surpass my incredibly high expectations. When would I have chopped wood before?’ she practically shouts… ‘I had a very privileged upbringing!’ And how they did! You belong to this small category of queer rom-com authors like Casey McQuiston, Alexis Hall, and Anita Kelly, whose books I’d buy going in blind. (For those who haven’t heard of Anita yet, Love & Other Disasters is a must-read, and please add their next novel, Something Wild & Wonderful, to your TBR!) Thanks to the author, Atria Books and NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*In this witty and heartwarming romantic comedy—reminiscent of Red, White & Royal Blue and One to Watch—an awkward tech wunderkind on a reality dating show goes off-script when sparks fly with his producer. So, overall, I didn’t enjoy their relationship in the past (insta-love just isn’t for me), and I also didn’t care about them in the present (every moment they had was awkward, cheesy and forced). Basically, this romance gave me NOTHING. A sparkling winter wonderland, quirky family traditions, and a messy 'love trapezoid' make the yuletide gay in this earnest queer rom-com... it's delightful to watch this clever spin on the fake dating trope unfold. This is a winner. - Publishers Weekly Featuring ~ single 1st person POV, present tense, LGBT ~ FF, fake relationship, marriage of convenience, cheating, insta-love, some steamage, Christmas

Mike from Franklin County, PaBurl Ives sang this song in the Rankin - Bass animated t.v. christmas special : "Rudolf , The Red - Nosed Reindeer" , while doing the voice of "Sam the Snowman" . He also sang the theme song , sang "Silver and Gold" , and narrated the story . Burl Ives is also known for his two popular songs on a 45 - speed record : "Pearly Shells" and "Little Bitty Tears" . A struggling artist strikes up a marriage of convenience with her one-night stand’s brother in this holiday romance. It’s not my fault you insisted on going to college forever and got fired from Lycra Studios,” she snaps. You might be wondering why would I stop reading a book when I got so far in, and it boils down to demisexuality being misrepresented in this story. GUYS NOT TO BE DRAMATIC OR ANYTHING BUT I JUST GOT AN ARC OF THIS BOOK AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASGJHAKFD 😭💖😭💖😭💖😭💖

The book was too sexually explicit for me, personally (though I really appreciate the verbal consent aspect!! 👏🏻) One thing to love about romances is there’s no spoiling the end, at least not in a general sense. We know these two queer women end up making it work and get their happily-ever-after, because otherwise it wouldn’t qualify for the genre. The joy in reading an awesome romance like this one is the journey along the way and the specific ways that the book explores familiar themes and tropes. In that way, Kiss Her Once for Me is a truly stellar example of not just a holiday romance or a queer romance, but of any kind of romance because it’s so good at playing with genre expectations and at building fully realized leads who have character arcs separate but complementary to the love story. Plus, have I mentioned it is really fun and really gay? Believe me, Alison, this story is a gem (I’ve already said that twice, didn’t I?), and I will gulp down every book you write from now on at a furious pace! The answer is, apparently, yes. I don’t have anyone else. If last Christmas is any indication, it’s best I’m not alone for the holidays. I tend to make misguided life choices in the name of loneliness.

Overall though, this is a delightfully funny hot holiday romance about learning how to step outside of fear and go for what we want in life--even if that means we fail from time to time. Why would I leave Phoenix for somewhere wet and cold?” Linds asks, reminding me that my Christmas wishes are always irrelevant.

Table of Contents

And it’s not just the content of Kiss Her Once for Me that is festive. Cochrun’s writing, on top of being very funny, is often thematically and seasonally on point. Take, for example, this description of Ellie’s anxiety: “My insides are a runny glass of eggnog.” When Andrew arrives in the coffee shop for the visit that sets the plot in motion, Ellie tells us: “A visit from Andrew Kim-Prescott is usually a highlight in my sad-hermit life, but this is just the flammable tinsel on the dried-out Charlie Brown Christmas tree of my day.” Christmasy metaphors abound!
