This was my setup for Ableton Live: I found I further had to enable some of the Sync options (not documented in M‑Audio’s walkthroughs) to get the arpeggiator to sync to Live’s tempo.M‑Audio bandy around the term ‘auto‑mapped’ quite a bit in their blurb, but it’s more accurate to say that the roles of the hardware sliders, buttons and knobs for each DAW are pre‑mapped, and the underlying configurations saved like presets into the Oxygen Pro’s internal memory. There’s nothing like the complexity of Novation’s old Automap system (or indeed M‑Audio’s now‑defunct HyperControl), which promised tight two‑way communication between DAW and controller via all sorts of additional software and/or ‘wrapped’ plug‑ins: a great shame, or a blessed relief, depending on your expectations and aspirations.

With Smart Chord and Smart Scale technology, creating music and transferring what’s in your imagination to what you hear coming out of your computer has never been easier! Many potential buyers will no doubt be attracted by the Oxygen Pros’ pre‑configured performance and convenience features, so let’s get to these right away. A 5 DIN MIDI-out, so you can use the Pro 49 for controlling other MIDI-gear (I use it for my Minilogue, which has smaller en fewer keys), without a DAW.With Smart Chord activated, pressing a single key will play a full chord rather than just one note. The key you press will determine the root note in the chord. The rest of the chord’s properties (Major, Minor, and Voicing) are determined by the settings you choose. Smart Chord also has a Custom Mode which lets you determine the chord structure that will be assigned to each key by manually playing it. For example, if you select Custom Mode, and play a 1-b3-5-b7 chord, every key will then be assigned to play this chord structure. The note of the key you press will serve as the root of the chord and all the parameters can be edited right on your Oxygen keyboard controller.
