About this deal

We begin the book with a girl lost in the city, with nothing to her name but a few precious keepsakes from a life she was forced to leave behind. As we read more of her story, little snippets of her memories are inserted in. Heart wrenching glimpses of a powerful love that was torn away from her. But why was she here? Where was the boy she loved now? What had happened to them? .... This book is their story. Like the blurb suggests, there is a place in present-day where people faithfully follow their chosen leader, worship their gods, and live with no modern conveniences. It is this kind of community where Calder lives, and where he meets Eden when they were both children. As the years pass, their connection grows more strong and intense. Every single moment they were together was precious and cherished but both knew that a relationship was forbidden because Eden was betrothed to another. Haven Torres’s life fell apart. Or more to the point, it burned to the ground. At the time, it seemed like a solid idea to jump in her car, her brother a mostly-willing co-pilot, and embark on a cross-country adventure.

I've wanted you for so long. So long. Every waking minute, in my dreams, too. I want to bury myself in you, drown in you, and never come up for air. I want you to be mine, and only mine... You trust me, right?" Your male leads don’t follow the “formula.” When you look at Christian Grey, Gideon Cross, Damien Stark, Jesse Ward, etc…there’s the same formula. Uber rich, playboy, broken, alpha male falls for pretty yet insecure girl who doesn’t get how beautiful she really is. We love our broken alpha males (after all I am spending the weekend with The Lord of the Manor), but we appreciate something different. As Kira and Grayson race toward their destiny, they will discover that some vows are meant to be broken, and others are worth risking everything for . . . even your very own heart. What begins as a temporary business arrangement, soon evolves into more as vivacious, spirited Kira challenges detached, arrogant Grayson to want more from life. To want more for himself. But as their wills clash and fiery passion ignites, they’ll realize that sometimes the past creates walls too difficult to climb, and that lies and deception rarely precede a happily every after. After reading Archer’s Voice, I thought there was no way Mia Sheridan could top it. It was one of those books that was so good, I was worried the next, no matter how fabulous just wouldn't measure up. I was so wrong. Becoming Calder was so different than any of her other books, but equally good as Archer for me. Both books have made their way into my top 5 so far this year and that is a huge achievement! This story exudes originality. It’s a captivating, unique, and epic forbidden love story. I was beyond impressed with the writing, the characters and the overall story. Both Calder and Eden had an extreme amount of strength. They were both beautiful people, inside and out. The risks they were willing to take and the love that they had for each other was just inspiring. Calder is one of those characters you can’t help but adore. The way he was with his sister, his best friend, and just the way he treated everyone in general had me falling for him from the start. Eden’s love for Calder was so beautiful, so pure. I loved watching them together but I was nervous for them at the same time. All I wanted was for them to be able to get away, to start somewhere where they could just BE. The conflict is primarily driven by the other Hales, specifically Travis the cousin and his mother. Archer tells Bree that he is mute because he was shot by his uncle when he was seven. The story opens with a seven year old Archer listening to his Uncle Connor beg his mother Lys to run away. As the tale unfurls, you learn of a complicated soap operatic relationship between the Hale brothers and Archer’s mother. And there’s some suggestion that drama is attempting to repeat itself between Bree, Archer and Travis only Bree’s affections clearly lie with Archer. Grace Hamilton was the girl with a plan. She knew exactly where her life was going and prided herself on always achieving her goals. It was who she was, and how she lived her life. She never stepped outside the lines, and never considered what she might desire and whom she was actually trying so hard to please. Until him…

The story is filled with so much angst and sadness. It is something I'm definitely not used to when reading a Mia Sheridan book, but I really got swept away by the love that was shared between Calder and Eden. They were so innocent and pure. When they start to become intimate it was so very romantic to me. I was worried during every stolen moment that they shared, that they would be caught by Hector or one of his evil disciples. My book girlfriend started reading Archer’s Voice yesterday. We started discussing, and I want to share our conversation with you. No one lays open the heart and soul quite like New York Times bestselling author Mia Sheridan in this emotional love story about destiny, second chances, and the healing power of love. A morning glory is a beautiful flower, delicate-like. Blue, just like your eyes. But the thing about a morning glory? The thing about a morning glory is if you let it, it will totally take over your crops, because it's not just a flower. It's also a weed, totally invasive. Stronger than it looks." All throughout BECOMING CALDER we hear about an impending storm / flood and the implications of what will happen once it hits. Waiting for that disturbing storm made my heart race.

Becoming Calder is the first book in a completed 2-book series. Both books will be released on the same day. I fully understand why they were separated because this book alone was a full length novel and every single word mattered. It's also has a beginning, middle, and end. And while it will leave you desperate to dive into the next book immediately, it also makes complete sense to have them as two separate books. I do however how so much respect for Mia Sheridan for choosing to release the two books together. To me, this is a sign of an author who is thinking of her readers and her story first by giving them a complete reading experience by allowing the emotions from the first book carry through to the second without delay.

THIS IS A STAND-ALONE SIGN OF LOVE NOVEL, INSPIRED BY LIBRA. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18. THIS IS A STAND-ALONE SIGN OF LOVE NOVEL, INSPIRED BY ARIES. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18. What drags the grade of the book down for me was the transformation of Archer from a bearded loner to the character he becomes at the end. It was too fantastical for me and not in keeping with the rest of the story. The ending drama was overstated as well. The light of love has always found its way into even the darkest of places, from the beginning of time to the end of the world. In this place, there is a boy with the body of a god and the heart of a warrior. He is strong and faithful and serves his family honorably. But he dares to dream of more.

This story is truly an adventure that had me terrified, cringing and swooning over the forbidden love that Eden and Calder have in one another. For six months, each breath has been a reminder that I survived - and my dad didn't. I'm almost safe again. But the moment I meet Archer Hale, my entire world tilts on its axis and never rights itself again. Some obstacles in life seem too hard to overcome. Betrayal definitely being one of them. With limited capital, and dwindling resources, he is attempting to resurrect his failing family vineyard, a self-imposed vow seemingly destined to fail. That is until a young woman enters his office with an outlandish, unexpected proposition impossible to refuse.
