About this deal

I always forget to explain this and it could have been made clearer using some other type of dice, but this is a minor issue. You will ask yourself whether you really need to have one big treasure, or whether it wouldn't be better to pick up a couple of smaller ones. I’m especially fond of the theme, as there are (to be fair, an increasing number) not many submarine-themed games that I can think of, offhand, and unique themes always have a nice place in my game library. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.

The aim for prospective adventurers, is to leave the submarine, retrieve some treasure, and get back to the airlock before the shared air supply runs out (assume they are all connected to the sub with air hoses). This is actually going to be on my “New to Me” post for November, as I just played it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. If you take more than three Ruin tokens, though, it becomes very difficult to move (since you take a -3 movement penalty with three movement tokens, and with 6 you cannot move). As my little game report has hopefully conveyed, there is a real sense of peril as you play Deep Sea Adventure. One as simple as this will always be an exercise in basic probability, but once you get past the initial learning curve of understanding DSA’s particular cadence, the number of interesting decisions shrink. Being too conservative actually aids the other players, and playing high risk is generally bad for everyone but especially bad for you.

When I first played Deep Sea Adventure a few years ago the owner said “you can win this game with one point”. Attack the Oxygen; The strategy if you are too far out is to switch to drawing oxygen down and making sure all players drown rather than the player near the front getting back with 2-3 treasures and you maybe not making it. The ‘treasure’ are triangles (0-3 points each), squares (4-7 points each), pentagons (8-11 points each) and hexagons (12-15 points each) and are placed face-down so you cannot see their exact value. In the board game “Deep Sea Adventure” explorers adventure to underwater ruins to find treasure with the goal of making a fortune. A group of adventurers have banded together on a submarine to try and gather the treasures that sleep at the bottom of the sea.Skipping past any other players they run into, they will end up landing on a treasure token, which they can decide to pick up or not. The game has a very interesting mechanism for player interaction – feels almost like a co-op but in reality it is a competition over an available resource (the air).

The triangles are nearest the surface and the hexagons are on the ocean floor (it’s always the way, isn’t it?When playing a game of Deep Sea Adventure you look at the value of the treasure (arranged in four types; 0-3, 4-7, 8-11, 12-15) and keep it hidden.
