About this deal

When shopping for smart light switches, you will come across switches and plugs. Switches come with the convenience of working as regular light switches with natural operation whilst boasting features such as app remote control and timing automations. Generally, a smart light switch will be compatible with at least an iPad, android device, Nest, or Ecobee in your home. For example, Apple Homekit devices such as Ecobee or iPad are perfect for iDevices and in-wall outlets. SmartThings technology on the other end supports Z-Wave and Zigbee devices. Switch or Plug If a light fixture is controlled by more than one switch — for example, when you have a light switch at the top and bottom of a set of stairs — then you'll need to get a three-way smart light switch. However, if there's only one switch controlling an outlet, you can get a "single pole" switch.

Elevate your home lighting with Lightwave Smart Dimmers. Unleash the potential of intelligent lighting and experience a new level of control, comfort, and energy efficiency. Now for something a bit different. The Bot by SwitchBot is a little gadget with a robotic arm designed to press (or pull) just about any button or switch around your home. It’s a little bit fiddly to set up, as the moving arm is quite small and you need to position it just right, but once you’ve put the effort in it works really well, at least on the standard single-gang light switch we tried it with. Which type of switch you buy depends on what you want from your lighting. Do you want color-changing bulbs, or do you just want remote control of your existing bulbs? If it’s the latter, then a smart switch like the Tapo will be perfect for your needs. Are smart light switches hard to install? The switch is easy to add to an existing Wiz system, but has fairly limited functionality. It can only be used to turn the lights on or off with a press, and to raise and lower their brightness with a long press of each button. There’s no option for enabling preset lighting scenes, and we encountered a couple of strange issues with the Wiz app during the setup process. Smart light switches tend to be relatively cheap (at least compared with some of the pricier smart bulbs and LED light strips like the Philips Hue Lightstrips), as well as being compact and very easy to use. They are also simple to install and set up, and even those that replace your existing wired switches only require a very basic understanding of domestic electricity.Read our full Jasco Enbrighten Z-Wave No Neutral Smart Dimmer review Smart light switch accessories With geolocation your smart home will know if you are in or away from your home. This means you can easily trigger events based on your location. If for example you are on your way home from work, once you enter a preset distance around your home your smart light switches will activate a scene and turn your lights on. So when you arrive home your porch and hallway lights can be on ready for you. This makes it easy for you to control the lighting hands–free. All you need to do is mutter out the voice commands. This function allows you to integrate your home lighting into your smart home system as well. Remote Control

They work great for those who want to automate their regular light fixtures. Smart plugs on the other end tend to be more flexible as you can plug them with whatever device you want – great for lamps! The Verdict It has a maximum dimmable load of 280W (non-LED) and a current rating of 1 Amp. It comes with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty. This unit supports both ‘neutral wire’ and ‘no neutral wire’ operation and is our very latest release (current models to be phased out). The unit in addition to WiFi also supports BLE (Bluetooth low energy). A WiFi to Bluetooth hub can also be added if required. Control From Anywhere: Whether you're at home or on the go, the Lightwave app empowers you to control and monitor your lights from anywhere. Illuminate your space before you even step in or create the illusion of occupancy. With Lightwave, you're always in control. While the previous Hue Smart Dimmer had separate on/off buttons, the v2 Switch has them as one. The switch also detaches from the wall mount itself, doubling as a convenient remote control. The switch doesn't require a hub, and it works with any 2.4GHz Wi-Fi router. There can be issues initially pairing if you also have a 5GHz band configured on your router. A long-press can be used to either dim whichever lights the Smart Button is programmed to control, or turn all of your Hue lights off. The latter can be useful if the Smart Button is fitted by the front door, ready to be pressed when you head out. We’d like to see the option to set a certain scene with a long press, such as one that turns all the lights out apart from a couple of lamps that act as a burglar deterrent, but that isn’t currently possible. Depending on the light switch design and capacity, this feature doesn’t only allow you to remotely switch your lighting on and off. You can also use this feature to set up timing schedules and tailor your home lighting habits based on your needs. Technology Signify’s Philips Hue bridge is another solution, but it’s generally limited to supporting Philips Hue smart bulbs and accessories. Zigbee is widely support among smart dimmer manufacturers, including Jasco, Sinopé, and Sengled. Lutron also makes an ingenious Zigbee gadget for Philips Hue smart bulbs— the Lutron Aurora—that attaches to an old-fashioned toggle light switch and not only prevents the switch from being turned off (instantly rendering a Philips Hue smart bulb dumb), but it wirelessly controls all the Hub bulbs connected to that switch—complete with a rotary knob for dimming and brightening those bulbs and turning them on or off. A switch specifically for Wiz smart lighting systems, the Smart Button is a simple controller that comes with a magnetic plate that can be mounted to the wall using screws or included adhesive strips. The button itself is battery powered and has two buttons for turning the lights on or off.
